Subaru’s Electric Ambitions

Subaru feels like a brand that’s tailor-made to thrive in the electric vehicle arms race. Known for its off-road prowess and environmental consciousness, Subaru fans are largely outdoorsy individuals drawn to superior traction control and performance. Currently, however, Subaru has limped into the EV scene with just one offering—the Solterra, a re-badged Toyota bZ4X that hasn’t sparked much excitement.

The Upcoming Trailseeker

While the Solterra’s specs leave much to be desired, its sales have notably increased this past year, hinting that there’s a demand for Subaru’s electric offerings. The buzz surrounding the new Subaru Trailseeker, making a surprise debut at the New York Auto Show, could signify a shift in the brand’s strategy. Although details about the Trailseeker remain elusive, speculation is rife that it could potentially rival Toyota’s newly unveiled models in the EV sector.

The Electrifying Potential

If Subaru capitalizes on the latest advancements in battery technology, there’s a strong possibility that the Trailseeker could boast an impressive range of up to 300 miles. Paired with a competitive price point in the mid-$30,000 range, it could emerge as a compelling competitor alongside the Chevrolet Equinox EV. Moreover, Subaru’s pivot to the Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) from 2025 adds an exciting layer of accessibility to its upcoming EV offerings, further solidifying its presence in the electrified market.
