Introduction to the Recall

Ford has officially announced an expansion of its previous recall, now affecting more than 123,600 vehicles, including the Expedition SUVs, F-150 pickup trucks, and Lincoln Navigator SUVs. This recall addresses a potential defect in the vehicles’ braking systems that could compromise safety.

The Issue with Brake Systems

Affected models are the 2017-2018 Expedition, F-150, and Navigator, which are equipped with 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines. The defect arises in the brake master cylinder, which may permit brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. Such leakage could lead to a reduction in brake efficiency, elongating the distance needed to halt the vehicle. This significant issue escalates the likelihood of a crash, making it imperative for owners to take immediate action.

Resolution Steps for Vehicle Owners

Ford has committed to rectifying the problem at no cost to the vehicle owners. Authorized dealers will replace the faulty brake master cylinder, and if a leak is detected, the brake booster will also be replaced as necessary. Notification letters informing owners of this concern will be mailed starting April 28. For additional information, vehicle owners can reach out to Ford’s customer service at 866-436-7332 or consult the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236. Furthermore, owners can visit the official NHTSA website to verify their vehicle identification number and gather more insights into the recall process.
