Overview of the Recall

General Motors (GM) is initiating a substantial recall affecting more than 597,600 vehicles across its Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brands. This recall addresses critical issues related to engine components, specifically the connecting rod and crankshaft parts, which could potentially lead to severe engine damage or complete failure.

Affected Vehicle Models

The recall specifically concerns model-year 2021-2024 vehicles, including Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV SUVs, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickups, Suburban and Tahoe SUVs, as well as GMC Sierra 1500 pickups and Yukon SUVs. All affected vehicles are equipped with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which is most susceptible to these manufacturing defects.

Symptoms and Risks of Engine Failure

Drivers of the recalled models should be aware of various warning signs leading to potential engine failure. Symptoms may include unusual sounds such as knocking or banging, an illuminated check-engine light, or performance-related issues like reduced propulsion and difficulty starting the vehicle. Importantly, if an engine were to fail during operation, the risk of a crash significantly increases, posing a threat to driver and passenger safety.

What Owners Should Do

GM will notify vehicle owners starting June 9th regarding necessary steps they should take. Owners are urged to contact Cadillac at 800-333-4223, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, or GMC at 800-462-8782 for more information. If their vehicle is impacted by the recall, dealers will conduct inspections free of charge. Repair or replacement of the engine will be provided as needed, and for those who pass the inspection, additional maintenance will be performed at no cost.
