What is the Issue?

The problem arises from the reverse lights, which may cease to function over time. Moisture can penetrate the reverse light assembly, potentially leading to malfunction. This situation poses a potential danger for both the driver and nearby vehicles, particularly in low-light conditions. The inability for other drivers to see that a vehicle is reversing greatly increases the risk of accidents.

Resolution Process for Affected Owners

To address this issue, Toyota will replace the faulty reverse lights with improved units at no cost to the vehicle owners. Additionally, any corroded wiring harnesses associated with the assembly will be repaired. Toyota plans to notify affected owners by mid-July regarding the recall process. For inquiries, owners can contact Toyota at 800-331-4331 or visit their official website at toyota.com/recall. Furthermore, owners can also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to verify their Vehicle Identification Number for recall status.
