The Iconic Volvo XC90: A Beloved Family SUV
Since its debut in 2015, the Volvo XC90 has held a prominent place in the hearts of families around the globe. Known for its safety features and luxurious interiors, this Swedish SUV has consistently been one of Volvo’s best sellers. However, as the automotive landscape evolves, so too must this beloved model.

Transitioning to the Next Generation
According to Volvo’s CEO Hakan Samuelsson, a new generation of the XC90 is on the horizon. With the current model beginning to show its age, fans can anticipate a fresh design and improved technology in the upcoming third-generation XC90. Samuelsson emphasized that a new XC90 is crucial for the brand, hinting at exciting changes that could appeal to modern consumers.

Plug-In Hybrid Innovations
One of the most anticipated upgrades is the introduction of a long-range plug-in hybrid powertrain. The existing Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid, known as the T8 AWD in the United States, boasts a commendable electric range of 33 miles. However, with the new XC90, Volvo is looking at options similar to the XC70, which features battery options providing an electric range of up to 112 miles. This shift towards longer electric ranges is a promising direction for the brand.
Though there are no official timelines for the release of the new XC90, it could be as far out as 2027. As a proud Volvo owner, I am excited yet patient as we wait for the next chapter of this iconic family SUV. The potential for greater efficiency and technology may well usher in a new lease of life for Volvo amidst global market challenges.
