The Chevrolet Silverado EV is aping Tesla (who is notoriously optimistic when it comes to timing) in an unflattering way. But when the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV First Edition RST begins to arrive in customer driveways mid-2024, it will boast plenty of features to challenge the Cybertruck — as well as the Rivian R1T and electric pickups from traditional competitors Ford and Ram
Deliveries of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV First Edition RST will begin in the next few months.

While Chevy is limiting sales of the Silverado EV’s lower-spec WT trim to fleet buyers, the RST will be the first to land in consumer garages. And the very first of those will be the First Edition, which comes fully loaded with all the tech, luxury, functionality and safety

The RST’s front and rear electric motors combine for a manufacturer-estimated 754 horsepower and 785 pounds-feet of torque in the max-output Wide Open Watts mode, enabling a sprint from 0-60 mph in what Chevrolet claims is less than 4.5 seconds. A height-adjustable adaptive air suspension, four-wheel steering, 24-inch wheels and a fixed panoramic glass roof are all standard on the First Edition. Inside, the driver faces an 11-inch digital instrument cluster flanked by a 17-inch infotainment touchscreen and 14-inch head-up display.

The First Edition also includes GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving, adapted to also work with a trailer on the Silverado EV, as well as all of the active-safety systems necessary to enable it, including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitors, lane departure steering assist and adaptive cruise control.

In addition to a 10,000-pound towing capacity and 1,300-pound payload, the First Edition includes a standard Multi-Flex Midgate (optional on other Silverado EVs), in which the backseat folds flat and the back of the cab opens up to accommodate longer cargo. When paired with the available Multi-Flex Tailgate, this extends the bed from just under 6 feet to nearly 11. A standard 7.2-kilowatt and available 10.2-kW power output can power tools and toys or charge a fellow EV.

The exact size of the Silverado EV’s battery pack has not yet been revealed, but Chevrolet says the truck will go 440 miles on a full charge, more than 100 miles beyond what most competitors manage. Standard DC fast-charging capability up to 350 kW will add up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

While the brand had initially expected to price the truck above $100,000, that figure has now dropped to $96,495 (price includes a $1,995 destination charge).
