The 2024 Toyota Tacoma crew cab’s improved crashworthiness earned it the lesser Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This model year of the Tacoma earned a good rating in the small overlap front test, with the vehicle’s occupant space maintaining its integrity during the test and the driver dummy not showing any heightened risk of injury.

IIHS bases its rating on two versions of the moderate overlap front tests, plus the small overlap front and side tests. This rating is further influenced by assessments of a vehicle’s forward collision mitigation system, headlights, seat belt reminder quality and child-seat Latch attachment capability.

To qualify for a 2024 Top Safety Pick, vehicles must have good ratings in the original moderate overlap front test and updated side test. In addition, the vehicle must receive acceptable or good ratings for its headlights across all trim levels, as well as its pedestrian front crash prevention system.
