Overview of the 2025 Kia Niro

The 2025 Kia Niro continues to uphold its reputation as an affordable and efficient subcompact hybrid SUV. Rolling into its third model year with no major changes to the hybrid or plug-in hybrid variants, the new Niro maintains its competitive edge. Kia has announced that the base model prices start at ,365 for the hybrid and ,865 for the plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Notably, Kia will release details on the 2025 Niro EV later.

Performance and Efficiency

The 2025 Niro hybrid is equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor, producing 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. This setup is married to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. For 2024, the hybrid boasted an impressive EPA-rated 53/54/53 mpg city/highway/combined, which is expected to remain constant for 2025. On the other hand, the PHEV version features a more robust electric motor, increasing the output to 180 horsepower, with the same torque rating. The 11.1-kilowatt-hour battery allows the PHEV to achieve up to 33 miles of electric range. Kia estimates the plug-in hybrid achieves a combined 108 mpg-equivalent.

Trim Levels and Features

The Niro lineup for 2025 includes several trim levels with a host of features. Starting with the base LX hybrid, standard equipment includes 16-inch aluminum wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated side mirrors, and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As you step up through the trims—EX, EX Touring, SX, and SX Touring—the features expand to include synthetic leather-trimmed upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and an upgraded Harman Kardon audio system in higher trims.

Advanced Safety Features

The 2025 Kia Niro doesn’t fall short in safety, with the entire lineup featuring Kia’s Drive Wise safety suite. This includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and more. The EX hybrid and all PHEV variants come with additional safety technologies such as adaptive cruise control and an upgraded forward-collision avoidance system. The SX and SX Touring trims offer features like front parking sensors to enhance driver convenience and safety.

In conclusion, the 2025 Kia Niro and Niro PHEV offer a compelling blend of affordability, efficiency, and advanced features. Whether you opt for the hybrid or the plug-in hybrid, the Kia Niro remains a wise choice for those looking for an efficient and well-appointed subcompact SUV.
