Overview of the Recall

The latest recall from Stellantis is significant, involving more than 206,500 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. This recall concerns model-year 2018-2019 vehicles that may experience a malfunction in the antilock brake system (ABS) module. This defect is crucial because it can lead to multiple safety hazards for drivers and passengers alike.

Risks Associated with the ABS Module Malfunction

The malfunctioning ABS module can cause several dangerous situations. Firstly, the brakelights may illuminate incorrectly, not providing accurate signals to other drivers. Secondly, the system may disable the ABS and the electronic stability control, impairing vehicle handling under critical driving conditions. Most alarmingly, drivers might be able to start and shift out of park without pressing the brake pedal, which presents a significant risk of unintended vehicle movement and potential rollaways.

Actions to Take

Stellantis is currently working on a fix, which is under development. Notifications will be sent to vehicle owners starting December 5. In the interim, affected owners are encouraged to contact Stellantis at 800-853-1403 for more information regarding the recall (recall number 94B). For additional guidance, individuals can also reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit the NHTSA website to check their vehicle identification number.
