Subaru WRX Drops Base Trim in 2025

The 2025 Subaru WRX has undergone significant changes, starting with the removal of the base trim level. Now, the starting price is set at $36,920. This shift appears to be in direct response to consumer preferences, as the base variant saw minimal demand in previous years. While this may seem like a price hike, it reflects a strategic decision by Subaru to focus on more popular trims.

All-New TS Trim Joins the Lineup

One of the most notable introductions to the 2025 Subaru WRX is the TS trim. This replaces the previous tuner-ready TR trim, which was popular but may not have resonated with the broader audience. The TS stands for ‘tuned by STI,’ and it continues the legacy of performance-focused engineering. Key features remain intact, including Brembo brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, and Recaro sport seats. However, the TS brings a unique flair with blue accents and maintains an impressive array of performance enhancements.

Powertrain and Efficiency Overview

Under the hood, the Subaru WRX retains its 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, delivering 271 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic, with the latter being standard on higher trims, augmenting convenience for city drives. Fuel efficiency remains competitive, with previous figures highlighting 19 city/26 highway mpg for manual versions. While official ratings for the 2025 model are expected soon, they are likely to mirror previous performance stats.

Overall, Subaru’s revamping of the WRX lineup not only reflects market trends but also enhances the brand’s performance credibility for the 2025 model year.
