Overview of the Recall

Kia Motors is initiating a major recall affecting close to 74,500 units of its Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, and Sorento Plug-in Hybrid SUVs. This action primarily targets model years 2024-2025. The reason for this recall stems from a software issue linked to the body domain control unit, which could potentially impact the operation of low-beam headlights and taillights.

Safety Concerns

The malfunction in the headlights and taillights poses a significant safety risk, as diminished visibility during nighttime or adverse weather conditions can greatly increase the likelihood of accidents. As per regulatory guidelines, functioning headlights and taillights are essential for safe driving, underscoring the importance of addressing this software bug promptly.

Steps for Affected Owners

Kia is committed to resolving this issue efficiently. Starting February 21, notifications will be sent to all affected vehicle owners. Kia dealerships are prepared to offer complimentary updates to the body domain control unit software to rectify the malfunction. Owners who have additional inquiries or concerns can reach out to Kia at 800-333-4542. Moreover, consumers can verify their vehicle identification number and obtain further details through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website or hotline at 888-327-4236.
