Flavio Briatore’s Perspective on Alpine’s Future

As Alpine prepares to transition from a works team to a customer outfit, prominent figure Flavio Briatore emphasizes that there’s no reason why the Enstone team cannot be successful with Mercedes power in Formula 1 2026. Returning to his role as non-executive director at Alpine, Briatore faces scrutiny regarding the decision to wind down Renault’s F1 engine programme.

The Shift from Renault to Mercedes

Briatore addressed concerns about the engine switch, stating that the decision was made prior to his return to the team. He clarified, “The problem is the evidence,” highlighting that the plan to change engines was in motion before he resumed his position. He acknowledged the strategy set by the management team, remarking, “Whatever our chairman decides, fine.” Briatore’s insight provides a clear understanding of the team’s direction.

Taking Responsibility for the Future

While Briatore has often been seen as a controversial figure, he asserts, “I am not the bad guy all the time… everything else you [can] blame me. Not this one.” His comments underscore a commitment to moving forward and finding success with Mercedes engines. As the F1 landscape evolves, the focus is now on how the Enstone team will adapt and perform with this significant shift.
