Introduction to the Recall

Ford has announced a significant recall impacting nearly 150,000 Bronco vehicles due to potential issues with rear suspension parts. This recall concerns the 2021–2024 Bronco Badlands models and those equipped with the off-road-focused Sasquatch package. The primary concern revolves around the rear dampers, specifically those featuring remote reservoirs that are prone to corrosion.

Details of the Rear Suspension Problem

According to the recall report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on January 25, 2025, Ford estimates that approximately 30 percent of the affected vehicles may experience issues related to the rear suspension. Consequences of this problem include a bouncy ride, odd noises, and the potential for the external reservoir to detach from its mounting point. The long-flange design of the damper has been identified as a contributing factor, particularly in its susceptibility to corrosion.

Current Investigation and Future Actions

NHTSA began investigating the matter last October after several owners reported issues with the rear dampers, including complaints of loose remote reservoirs. In response, Ford initiated its own investigation, concluding that the long flange design of the dampers was to blame, leading to a switch to a short-flange damper, which is deemed less prone to corrosion. While newer Bronco Badlands and Sasquatch models have already adopted these improved dampers, Ford is actively working on a solution for the vehicles affected by the recall. Owners can expect notifications regarding the ongoing investigation and updates on the remedy starting February 7, 2025.
