Lowest Gas Prices in Three Years

Gas prices across the U.S. have seen a significant decline, with the national average now at $3.03 per gallon. This drop marks the lowest prices in three years, making it a particularly favorable time for travelers planning their holiday road trips. In fact, many states are currently enjoying prices below , a milestone that hasn’t been reached since May 2021.

State-by-State Breakdown

According to AAA, an impressive 32 states boast average gas prices below or well below $3. Ohio and Delaware lead the country with the lowest prices, averaging $2.89 per gallon. Following closely are Georgia and Virginia, with averages of $2.91 and $2.92 per gallon, respectively. On a county level, Hockley County in Texas stands out with an average price of just $2.30 per gallon, making it the most affordable location in the nation.

Comparing Costs: Gas vs. Electric

While gas prices are on the decline, it’s worth noting the costs associated with electric vehicle charging. The national average price for a kilowatt of electricity at public EV charging stations is 34 cents. Interestingly, Hawaii is the most expensive state for EV charging, with prices reaching 56 cents per kilowatt hour. Kansas, in contrast, offers the lowest cost at just 21 cents per kilowatt hour.

As you embark on your holiday road trips, remember that while gas prices are favorable, the charging logistics for electric vehicles require careful planning. Happy travels!
