A New Era for Electric Scooters in Europe

Honda Motorcycles is embarking on an exciting venture in collaboration with Swedish start-up Gocimo, focusing on the implementation of a swappable battery program for their EM1 E electric scooter. This initiative aims to test the viability of battery sharing for low-capacity electric motorcycles, a much-needed advancement in urban mobility across Europe.

The Feasibility Study in Malmö

Beginning in February, the project will roll out in Malmö, Sweden, encompassing a one-year feasibility study. Honda will utilize three strategically located battery exchange stations throughout the city to facilitate this innovative project. The goal? To analyze both the business perspective and consumer adoption rates of Honda’s £3299 EM1 E urban electric scooter, launched mid-2023.

Commitment to Sustainability and Convenience

For this pilot, Honda plans to deploy 30 EM1 E scooters and 60 mobile power pack E batteries. Global strategy for emission reductions and sustainable transport options is at the forefront of Honda’s agenda, as noted by Daiki Mihara, operating executive at Honda Motor Co. He emphasizes that the project not only focuses on the current Swedish market but is also a stepping stone towards a broader European expansion. With Honda handling any after-sales service required, the aim is clear: accelerate the penetration of electric motorcycles and optimize mobility through this innovative battery sharing model.
