Overview of the Recall

Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia have announced a significant recall involving over 208,000 electric vehicles (EVs) due to potential issues with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). This defect may lead to the ICCU becoming damaged, which could result in the 12-volt battery failing to charge, thereby causing a loss of drive power. This is not the first instance of such a recall; a similar announcement was made in March.

Affected Models and Years

The recall affects several notable models, which include:

  • 2022-24 Hyundai Ioniq 5
  • 2023-25 Hyundai Ioniq 6
  • 2023-25 Genesis GV60
  • 2023-24 Genesis Electrified GV70
  • 2023-24 Genesis Electrified G80
  • 2022-24 Kia EV6

These models are equipped with the ICCU, which, if malfunctioning, poses a risk of power loss and increases the likelihood of an accident.

Remedies and Notifications

To address this concern, affected dealers will inspect the ICCU and replace it along with its fuse if necessary. Additionally, updates to the ICCU software will be implemented. Importantly, all repairs will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Owners of Kia models will receive notifications starting December 13, while Hyundai and Genesis customers can expect to be informed on January 17, 2025. For further inquiries, owners can contact Hyundai at 855-371-9460, Genesis at 844-340-9741, or Kia at 800-333-4542. They may also visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website to check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for more details.
