Hyundai Recalls 226,000 Elantras and Santa Fes for Rearview Camera Issues

Overview of the Recall

Hyundai has announced a significant recall affecting over 226,100 units of its Elantra sedan and Santa Fe SUV models. This follows a previous recall for its Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 electric vehicles. The current recall is due to an issue with the rearview camera, which could pose a safety hazard for drivers.

Details of the Affected Vehicles

The recall impacts model-year 2021-2022 Elantras, Elantra hybrids, Santa Fes, and Santa Fe hybrids, as well as 2022 Elantra N and Santa Fe plug-in hybrids. The problem originates from a damaged printed circuit board within the rearview camera system, which may fail to display the rear view properly. This malfunction reduces visibility and increases the risk of accidents on the road.

Next Steps for Owners

Hyundai plans to notify vehicle owners starting January 19, 2025. Affected individuals are encouraged to take action promptly. The automaker will provide dealers with the necessary instructions to replace the malfunctioning rearview cameras at no cost. Owners can also reach out to Hyundai’s customer service at 855-371-9460 to learn more about their specific case. For additional information, vehicle owners can visit the NHTSA website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to check if their car is affected.
