A Shift in Strategy
KTM parent company Pierer Mobility AG has announced a significant decision to cease the distribution of CFMoto and Zeeho motorcycles across several key European markets, effective May 31, 2025. This decision, reportedly mutually agreed upon, is part of KTM’s strategy to concentrate on its own brands: KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas. As the motorcycle industry grapples with post-pandemic challenges, KTM is steering its business back to familiar terrain.
The Future of Distribution
The affected markets include the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Spain, where KTM has managed distribution since January 2023. Once the transition occurs in June 2025, a new importer, yet to be named, will assume these responsibilities. In the interim, customers and dealers will continue to engage with KTM’s subsidiary, CFMoto Motorcycles Distribution GmbH.
Looking Ahead
This bold move arrives at a time when KTM is realigning its focus after facing substantial economic difficulties, including a staggering €2.5 billion in claims due to three insolvencies. Moreover, the company has been left with a large stockpile of 265,000 unsold motorcycles, a consequence of the post-COVID market turbulence. While the future may appear uncertain for CFMoto in Europe after this distribution termination, KTM’s decision highlights a renewed commitment to its primary brands amid an environment where only the strongest survive.
