Overview of the Recalls

Recent recalls by Mazda have highlighted significant software issues affecting the CX-90 and CX-70 SUVs. These recalls, reported on October 31, 2024, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), impact thousands of units from the 2024 to 2025 model years, raising concerns among vehicle owners.

Details of the Software Issues

The most common issue pertains to faulty dashboard electronics, specifically an electrical supply unit that could malfunction. Approximately 80,915 vehicles are affected, which can lead to important functionalities, such as the defroster, seatbelt warning, 360-degree camera system, and the high-voltage cooling system, failing to operate when the vehicle is started. Mazda has committed to addressing these issues at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Significance of Additional Recalls

Beyond the dashboard issues, additional recalls involve the vehicle’s powertrain control module and engine control module. One critical recall concerns 30,488 models that risk loss of drive power due to software malfunctions. Mazda is encouraging owners to contact their local dealer for necessary reprogramming, which is also covered under warranty. Another 14,902 plug-in hybrid models face challenges with improper inverter software. Mazda has assured that these owners will receive notifications by December 30, 2024, and advised to schedule an appointment for installing improved software.
