Farewell to Eddie Jordan

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan, the former Formula One team owner, acclaimed TV host of Top Gear, and charismatic racing driver. At the age of 76, he succumbed to a year-long battle with prostate cancer, as stated by his family. Jordan died peacefully in Cape Town, surrounded by loved ones, on March 20, 2025.

 

A Passion for the Sport

Eddie Jordan’s journey in racing began in 1970 with karting, igniting a lifelong passion for motorsport. He competed in multiple racing formats, achieving notable victories in karting and Formula Ford before transitioning to Formula Atlantic Championship. While his time behind the wheel was impressive, it was his ventures as a team owner and talent spotter that truly defined his legacy. Eddie Jordan Racing was born from his desire to nurture upcoming talents.

 

Creating Unforgettable Moments

Jordan’s impact on Formula One was profound. He notably provided Ayrton Senna with his first test drive in 1982. His team, Jordan Grand Prix, marked its presence in 1991, epitomizing the spirit of competition and allure of the sport. The highlight of Jordan’s tenure came in 1999, when his team finished third in the Constructors’ Championship, a testament to his strategic acumen and dedication. Eddie Jordan leaves behind a legacy filled with unforgettable memories and a void that will be felt deeply within the motorsport community.
