The Evolution of the Mazda Miata

Launched in 1989, the Mazda MX-5 Miata quickly earned acclaim for being a modern interpretation of the classic British roadster. Over the years, it has become a beloved car, cherished for its lightweight and spirited driving experience. However, as automotive technology evolves, enthusiasts are looking toward innovative solutions that enhance performance while respecting the original design.

Introducing Electrogenic’s EV Conversion Kit

The latest offering from Electrogenic, a specialist in electric vehicle (EV) conversions, introduces an intriguing option for Miata owners. This EV conversion kit replaces the traditional combustion engine with a 42.0-kwh battery pack, boosting the car’s output to 161 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. Notably, while weight is added due to the battery, the total increase is a manageable 220 pounds, maintaining an engaging driving experience.

Faithfulness to the Original

It’s essential to acknowledge that this conversion does alter the Miata’s character. The elimination of the manual transmission and the increase in weight may concern purists. However, Electrogenic ensures that the modification is reversible, meaning owners can return their Miata to its original configuration if desired. The EV Miata remains capable of reaching 60 mph in approximately six seconds, with an estimated driving range of 150 miles, making it a viable option for weekend adventures.

In conclusion, while this EV conversion may not adhere to the traditional essence of the Miata, it embodies the spirit of innovation and fun—elements that have always defined the Mazda MX-5.
