Introducing STLA Autodrive 1.0

Stellantis has officially announced the launch of its innovative level 3 self-driving function, known as STLA Autodrive 1.0. This groundbreaking technology promises to revolutionize urban commuting by allowing drivers to engage in activities such as watching movies or checking emails while their vehicle manages the driving at speeds up to 37 miles per hour.

Operational Features and Capabilities

The STLA Autodrive system is specifically designed for use in congested city environments, especially in situations characterized by stop-and-go traffic. Beyond its ability to maintain steering, speed, and distance, this autonomous-driving system is engineered to function efficiently in low-light conditions and adverse weather scenarios. A notification will alert drivers when the system is active based on traffic and environmental factors, providing a seamless user experience.

The Future of Autonomous Driving

While Stellantis’s spokesperson states that the technology is fully developed, they emphasize that the current market for such advanced autonomous vehicles is still limited. The company has made a strategic decision to postpone commercialization until the market is ready for wider adoption. Compared to current capabilities, Stellantis aims to enhance the system’s speed to 59 miles per hour and eventually integrate off-road driving functionalities.
