Tesla Recalls 1.8 Million Vehicles Over Hood-Latch Software Issue

Introduction to the Recall

Recently, Tesla has announced the recall of 1.8 million vehicles due to a potentially dangerous fault in the hood-latch detection software. This issue can lead to the hood not being properly secured, risking it flying open while driving and obstructing the driver’s view. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicated that this recall affects nearly 1,849,638 Tesla models.

Affected Tesla Models

The vehicles impacted by this recall include the Model S (2021-2024 model years), Model 3 (2021-2024), Model X (2021-2024), and Model Y (2020-2024). It’s noteworthy to mention that the Tesla Cybertruck is not part of this recall. The software issue causes the vehicle to potentially fail in detecting if the hood is not fully latched.

Resolution and Next Steps

Despite the significant number of vehicles affected, Tesla has assured that there is no need for the cars to be returned to service centers. The problematic hood-latch-detection software will be addressed through a free over-the-air update, which Tesla has already released. Vehicle owners will be informed via a letter by September 22, 2024. Additionally, they can verify if their vehicle is impacted on the Tesla Customer Service website or the NHTSA recalls page.
