Introduction

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk offers an EPA-estimated electric range of 25 miles on a full charge. Earlier this year, we managed to travel 21.9 miles on electric power alone on a mild winter day. Recently, we had the opportunity to test the vehicle’s electric range under warm-weather conditions.

Warm-Weather Electric Range Test

On a recent July morning, with a fully charged battery and the instrument panel showing 25 miles of all-electric range, we embarked on a driving loop north of Chicago. The route included a mix of suburban streets with stop-and-go traffic and faster-moving urban interstates. Our driving procedures mirrored our real-world fuel-economy testing methods: driving normally with windows up, the climate system in auto setting, the powertrain in auto mode, and cruise control off. The Grand Cherokee 4xe’s max regen feature, which slows the SUV as you lift your foot off the accelerator, was active during the drive.

Test Conditions and Results

Temperatures ranged from the upper 60s to lower 70s Fahrenheit, and there was some light rain. Despite these less-than-ideal conditions, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk traveled 25.6 miles on electric power alone. This performance matched its EPA estimate before switching to its gas-electric hybrid mode. The smooth and quiet driving experience when operating as an electric vehicle has been a highlight of our ownership.

Conclusion

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk proves its capability with a respectable 25 miles of all-electric driving range. This distance is sufficient for typical daily driving needs and enhances the vehicle’s appeal as a larger off-road SUV. Our warm-weather test confirms that the Grand Cherokee 4xe can meet its EPA-estimated range even under varied driving conditions.
