The 2024 BMW 4 Series will continue to feature the automaker’s Curved Display fully digital dashboard as standard equipment, but the two-door’s lineup also gains newly standard equipment on the M440i for the 2024 model year.
The display butts a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster against a 14.9-inch central touchscreen in an unbroken, curved sweep of pixels. The screens run the eighth generation of BMW’s iDrive operating system. The 2024 M440i also sees standard lumbar support for the front seats and a wireless device charger. A personal eSIM 5G is now optional on all 4 Series models, and the M4’s dashboard can now be had with imitation leather.
Powertrain Specs and MPG
The 2024 4 Series coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe fastback sedan are all available with either a 255-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in 430i models or a 382-hp, turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder in the M440i. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive. The EPA rates the 430i at 25/34/28 mpg city/highway/combined regardless of body style, while the M440i coupe and Gran Coupe get 24/32/27 mpg and the convertible is rated at 23/31/26. AWD versions lose 1-3 mpg for each figure.
The M4’s turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder makes 473 hp and is mated to a six-speed manual; that number is bumped up to 503 hp in the M4 Competition, which gets an eight-speed automatic. The base M4 is rear-drive only, while the Competition model can be had with either RWD or AWD. Buyers can get the M4 coupe with either engine, while the M4 convertible is only offered in the AWD Competition trim. BMW says both rear-drive coupe variants are rated at 16/23/19 mpg, while the xDrive Competition coupe gets 16/22/18 mpg and the convertible 16/23/18 mpg.
