Nissan offers the 2024 Ariya with a dizzying array of battery and motor combinations. There are two available battery packs, front- and all-wheel drive, and power outputs that vary from trim level to trim level. The base Engage trim draws juice from a 63-kilowatt-hour battery, while other Ariyas are fitted with an 87-kWh pack. With FWD, the Engage and Venture+ make 214 horsepower and 221 pounds-feet of torque, while the Evolve+ and Empower+ get 238 hp and the same 221 pounds-feet of torque. With the e-4orce AWD system adding a second electric motor to the rear axle, output leaps to a total of 335 hp and 413 pounds-feet of torque in the Engage, while all other trim levels get 389 hp and 442 pounds-feet.
Yet another variable enters into range estimates: wheel size. Most Ariya trim levels ride on 19-inch wheels, but 20s are available on the Platinum+. Larger wheels weigh more, and while they can impact fuel efficiency in a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, the effect is more pronounced with electric vehicles, where it can manifest as a marked drop in range.
With FWD, Nissan says the Engage gets a manufacturer-estimated 216 miles on a charge; AWD drops that to 205 miles (official EPA figures for the 2024 model are not yet available). Available only with the larger battery pack, FWD and the lower-output motor, the Venture+ is the endurance champ; it’s good for 304 miles. The FWD Evolve+ and Empower+ get an estimated 289 miles, while the AWD Engage+ and Evolve+ get 272. Only offered with AWD, the Platinum+ is good for 267 miles with 19-inch wheels and 257 miles with 20s.
Even the 2024 Ariya’s base Engage trim is generously equipped, with standard features including keyless entry and starting, synthetic leather, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a digital gauge cluster, six speakers and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, blind spot assist, a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, and rear automatic braking. The Engage+ features the same content but gets the higher-capacity battery pack and AWD.
Aside from the larger battery pack, the Venture+ is not notable for what it adds (range, and that’s it), but for what it takes away. The range champion is a specialist and forfeits the synthetic leather, heated seats and steering wheel, and head-up display. That means the question is, would you rather go far or be comfortable?
The full content package returns in the Evolve+, and from there, it’s a tale of incremental tech and luxury gains to the top of the line. The Evolve+ builds on the Engage with a power liftgate, power panoramic moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers and a 360-degree parking camera. The Empower+ trim adds automated parking and Nissan’s ProPilot Assist 2.0 semi-autonomous hands-free highway driving system, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centering steering. At the top of the range, the Platinum+ includes real leather, ventilated front seats and a 10-speaker Bose sound system.
