The Chevrolet Malibu will have its production discontinued in November

The Chevrolet Malibu, the last mainstream sedan from any of the Big Three automakers, will have its production discontinued in November.

The Malibu is built in Fairfax, Kan., but according to a statement from Chevrolet first reported on by The Detroit News, parent automaker GM will end production of the Malibu before the end of 2024 and begin retooling the Fairfax factory to build the upcoming next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV. Fairfax currently also builds the Cadillac XT4; the XT4 will continue to be built there alongside the new Bolt EV.

Honda’s Accord and Civic and Toyota’s Camry and Corolla still sell well, too, but overall sales of sedans have been in decline for years. As SUVs of all sizes continue to edge cars out of the market, the entry-level Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer each surpassed 100,000 sales in 2023.
