Introducing the Retro Toyota GR86 Rally Legacy
Toyota is on a remarkable streak, continually unveiling exciting concept cars at this week’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. Among these is the GR86 Rally Legacy, a car that beautifully combines nostalgia and advanced engineering, drawing inspiration from the iconic Celica GT-Four rally cars of the 1990s.
A Peak Under the Hood
At its heart, the GR86 Rally Legacy borrows the powerful turbocharged three-cylinder engine found in the GR Corolla. This radical transformation replaces the stock 2.4-liter flat-four engine, enhancing performance capabilities. With an impressive output of approximately 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, this concept car promises a thrilling driving experience. Toyota has also equipped the vehicle with performance upgrades, including a race-spec ECU, an improved cooling system, and a robust all-wheel-drive setup.
Design Inspired by the Legends
The exterior of the GR86 Rally Legacy captures the spirit of rally racing with its striking white paint job complemented by a vibrant red-and-green livery reminiscent of Castrol-sponsored vehicles. Other notable features include custom mud flaps, rally lights, and a functional rear spoiler. The interior is equally impressive, equipped with racing seats, a full roll cage, and six-point harnesses, ensuring safety and style.
While the GR86 Rally Legacy may not enter production in its current form, it demonstrates Toyota’s commitment to blending historical appeal with cutting-edge performance technology. This concept car could signal future possibilities for the GR86 lineup, potentially presenting a more powerful and versatile coupe.
