Introduction
If you are considering the all-electric 2024 Kia EV9, one essential question may arise: how fast does the EV9 charge? Our real-world experience after driving over 5,000 miles provides insights into its charging performance.
Charging Limitations of the EV9
The charging speed of the Kia EV9 is influenced by battery size, charger type, and the vehicle’s maximum acceptance rate. The base model features a 76.1-kWh battery with a peak DC fast-charging rate of 235 kW, while higher trims come with a 99.8-kWh battery that supports up to 210 kW. For all models, the maximum AC charging rate remains at 10.9 kW.
Real-World Charging Performance
When utilizing Level 2 charging at home, our editors averaged about 0.4 miles per minute, with an average charging time of approximately 434 minutes. Conversely, using public DC fast chargers resulted in a dramatic increase in speed, averaging 5.6 miles per minute. We found that charging times averaged around 33 minutes, adding more than 181 miles of range at an efficient pace. Notably, peak charging rates were observed at 210 kW on compatible stations.
Key Takeaways
In summary, home charging proves to be the most convenient method, while public DC fast-charging stations show enhancements in power delivery. These insights will assist potential EV9 owners in making informed decisions and highlight what to expect from charging in diverse scenarios.
