Introducing the Frontier Pro PHEV
At Auto Shanghai, Nissan has breathed new life into the pickup realm with the debut of its first plug-in hybrid pickup, the Frontier Pro. This vehicle emerges from the shadows of gas guzzlers, sporting a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a single electric motor. Together, they promise an exhilarating output of over 402 horsepower and a hefty 590 pound-feet of torque, ensuring robust performance on every terrain.
Powertrain and Performance Insights
The Frontier Pro’s innovative hybrid powertrain drives all four wheels, utilizing Nissan’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system that seamlessly distributes power where it’s most needed. For the off-road enthusiasts, a locking rear differential is available to tackle rugged landscapes. The truck’s 5-link independent rear suspension guarantees a smoother ride, while its electric-only range claims an impressive 84 miles. However, it’s essential to remember that this figure stems from China’s notoriously generous testing cycle.
A Design Like No Other
Beyond its impressive mechanics, the Frontier Pro also dazzles with a redesigned exterior and interior. Echoing the aesthetic of the new Kicks, the front is adorned with an LED light bar that pays homage to the classic Nissan Hardbody. Inside, the truck boasts a 10.0-inch driver display and a generous 14.6-inch infotainment system, steering clear of the traditional Frontier’s layout.
Currently available only in China, the Frontier Pro PHEV has been confirmed for future export, though U.S. markets may not see it soon. As we await its global journey, one thing is clear: the Frontier Pro embodies Nissan’s commitment to blending tradition with innovation in an ever-evolving automotive landscape.
