Introduction: The Sunset of the RAM 1500 Classic

The automotive landscape is evolving, and with it, some beloved models are bidding farewell. RAM has announced the discontinuation of its last ‘new’ half-ton truck with a Hemi V-8—the RAM 1500 Classic. This truck, a continuation of the previous-generation RAM 1500 launched in 2009, has served as an affordable, no-frills option since the introduction of the latest RAM 1500 model in 2019. It’s a significant moment for truck enthusiasts and the industry alike.

Reasons Behind the Discontinuation

A RAM spokesperson confirmed that the discontinuation of the RAM 1500 Classic is a result of the introduction of the Tradesman trim on the newest RAM 1500 for the 2024 model year. The Tradesman trim, which offers a base price of $42,270, will serve as the entry-level option moving forward. By contrast, the now-discontinued 2024 RAM 1500 Classic started at $40,700, making it less economically viable to keep the older model in production.

What’s Next for RAM Enthusiasts?

The current RAM 1500 will come standard with the Hurricane twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six for the 2025 model year, marking a shift away from the Hemi V-8. While the Hemi V-8 still finds a home in the 2025 Dodge Durango and RAM’s heavy-duty trucks with a 6.4-liter V-8, the classic half-ton with this engine is no longer an option. Enthusiasts looking for the RAM 1500 Classic might still find a few remaining units at dealerships, with the brand confirming that Hemi-powered variants will sell into 2025.

Conclusion: An Iconic Truck’s Legacy

The RAM 1500 Classic has undeniably left a mark in the truck market, embodying a blend of affordability and old-school charm. As we look towards a new era of automotive advancements, it’s vital to acknowledge the impact and legacy of models like the Classic. It may be the end of an era, but the spirit of innovation continues to drive the industry forward.
