Honda’s Civic compact car was smartly redesigned for the 2022 model year, and for 2025, it sees the return of a hybrid version in addition to receiving a mild refresh. At a starting price of $25,345, including destination charge, the 2025 Honda Civic LX is $300 more expensive than the outgoing 2024 Civic
Whereas previous Civic Hybrids were focused primarily on fuel efficiency, the new one follows a strategy similar to the hybrid versions of the latest-generation CR-V compact SUV and Accord mid-size sedan: It’s positioned as the uplevel powertrain in the Civic sedan lineup, delivering zippy acceleration in addition to improved fuel economy.
The 2025 Civic sedan is arriving at dealers now. The hatchback (which will also offer the new hybrid powertrain), Si sedan and Type R hatchback will follow later in the year; pricing and other information on those versions will be released closer to their on-sale dates. The sedan’s pricing, including $1,095 for destination, and comparison with the 2024 trim or comparable model is as follows:
LX: $25,345 (+$300)
Sport: $27,345 (+$700)
Sport Hybrid: $29,845 (New)
Sport Touring Hybrid: $32,845 (+$1,200 from previous Touring)
Versus competitors, the positioning of the new Civic Sport Hybrid as an uplevel engine on higher trims means its starting price is more expensive than the 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE that starts at $24,595 and the 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue that starts at $27,400.
The Civic’s base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine has been revised for earlier torque delivery and slightly improved fuel efficiency. It’s now rated at 150 horsepower and 133 pounds-feet of torque, and Honda says the continuously variable automatic transmission has been updated for improved acceleration response. In the LX trim, the 2.0 engine is manufacturer-rated at 32/41/36 mpg city/highway/combined. The Sport trim’s added equipment brings a slight fuel economy penalty; its numbers are 31/39/34, respectively.
The new-to-Civic hybrid powertrain is basically the same as the one used in the hybrid versions of the CR-V and Accord: It’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with a two-motor hybrid system. The hybrid powertrain replaces the previous turbocharged 1.5-liter as the Civic’s step-up engine offering and tops it in power output as well as fuel efficiency. It makes 200 hp and 232 pounds-feet of torque and is manufacturer-rated at 50/47/49 mpg city/highway/combined. The 2024 1.5-liter turbo engine made 180 hp and 177 pounds-feet of torque and an EPA-rated 31/38/34 mpg city/highway/combined in top-line Touring trim.
All Civic sedans receive a very mild exterior styling refresh and the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assist features as standard equipment. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and lane departure steering assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the LX.
The Civic LX rides on 16-inch wheels with wheel covers and features LED exterior lighting front and rear, push-button starting, a 7-inch digital gauge display, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a four-speaker audio system, two USB-C ports, automatic climate control, rear-seat reminder, rear seatbelt reminder and a folding rear seatback.
The Sport rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and features black exterior trim touches, keyless entry, remote starting, upgraded upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, steering-wheel paddle shifters, an eight-speaker audio system, heated exterior mirrors and 60/40-split folding rear seatbacks.
In addition to its hybrid powertrain, the Sport Hybrid adds a moonroof, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, variable intermittent wipers and illuminated vanity mirrors.
The Sport Hybrid rides on unique machine-finished 18-inch wheels and adds low-speed braking control, front and rear parking sensors, LED mirror turn signals, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, a sunglasses holder, an eight-way power driver seat and a four-way power front-passenger seat. Infotainment upgrades include a 10-inch digital gauge display, 9-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In software, Bose 12-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a wireless charging pad.
