Overview of the Recall

General Motors (GM) has announced a significant recall affecting more than 40,200 Chevrolet Blazer EVs due to a potential issue with the rear parking brake. This recall includes 2024 and 2025 model-year vehicles. The problem lies in the parking brake wiring harness, which may become damaged or corroded over time.

Safety Risks Involved

If the wiring harness is compromised, it might lead to unintentional engagement of the parking brake while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Conversely, if the parking brake disengages while the vehicle is parked, it may result in a rollaway, posing an additional hazard to both drivers and pedestrians. Therefore, addressing this issue promptly is critical for ensuring driver safety.

Steps for Affected Owners

GM will begin notifying the affected Chevrolet Blazer EV owners starting August 11. Dealerships will inspect the parking brake harness and reroute it as necessary. They will also install anti-abrasive tape to prevent future damage. If any wiring is already damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. Owners seeking more information can contact Chevrolet at 800-222-1020. Additionally, they can reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236 or visit the NHTSA website to check their vehicle’s identification number for more details.
