Volkswagen and Audi Recall: Addressing Instrument Panel Issues in EVs

Overview of the Recall

The Volkswagen Group has recently announced a significant recall affecting nearly 60,500 electric vehicles (EVs) from both the Volkswagen and Audi brands. This recall specifically targets model-year 2021-2023 VW ID.4 hatchbacks and 2022-2023 Audi Q4 e-tron vehicles, including their sportback variants. The issue at hand pertains to the instrument panels of these electric vehicles.

Potential Risks Involved

The core problem with the instrument panels involves a possible malfunction of the transmission gear lever indicator. If the indicator fails to function correctly, there is a risk that drivers may unintentionally exit the vehicle without engaging the parking brake, leading to a potential rollaway. This scenario significantly raises the likelihood of an accident, making this recall a matter of urgent safety concern.

Steps for Owners

Volkswagen has committed to addressing this issue by offering a free update to the brake control unit software. Notifications to affected vehicle owners will commence on April 25. For any inquiries related to the recall, owners can reach out to Volkswagen directly at 800-893-5298 or Audi at 800-253-2834. Additionally, they can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236, or visit the NHTSA’s website to verify their vehicle identification number (VIN) and acquire more details about the recall.
