Details on the New Installations

Located at the North Somerset (MP 112.3 westbound) and South Somerset (MP 112.3 eastbound) service plazas, each of these state-of-the-art charging stations offers not one, but two DC fast chargers—totaling four available ports! With both NACS and CCS plugs available, drivers can recharge in a flash. What’s more, these stations are designed for future expansion, ensuring they’ll keep pace with the growing demand.

A Bright Future for EV Infrastructure

Since its first charger was installed back in April 2014, the Pennsylvania Turnpike has tirelessly worked to improve EV accessibility. Fast forward to today, and there are over 60 charging stations operating across eight service plazas. The plans don’t stop here; by 2027, every one of the 17 service plazas will be equipped with DC fast chargers. In partnership with Applegreen Electric, expect 80 new universal EV chargers to be rolled out soon, further cementing the Turnpike’s role as a vital link in the region’s EV infrastructure.

Keith Jack, Director of Facilities Operations, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are pleased to offer our EV customers convenient access to the latest, fastest technology—without leaving the PA Turnpike.” With continued investment in green technology and infrastructure, Pennsylvania is carving out a robust future for electric vehicles.
