Introduction to BYD’s Recent Recalls

In a significant move, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD has announced two major recalls affecting over 115,000 vehicles. This has become the largest recall in BYD’s history, reflecting the seriousness of the situation.

Details of the Recalls

The recalls, filed with the State Administration for Market Regulation on October 17, center around design and battery component defects. The first recall impacts 44,535 Tang plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) produced between March 28, 2015, and July 28, 2017. According to BYD, these vehicles may experience issues with the drive motor controller that could potentially lead to severe malfunctions. In the worst-case scenario, this could even result in circuit board damage.

Additional Recall for Yuan Pro Electric Vehicles

Meanwhile, the second recall encompasses 71,248 Yuan Pro electric vehicles manufactured between February 6, 2021, and August 5, 2022. Here, the concerns arise from manufacturing defects that can lead to inadequate sealing, increasing the risk of water intrusion into the battery compartment. These issues are critical, as they could pose safety risks to drivers and passengers alike.

As BYD moves forward with these recalls, it’s essential for owners of affected models to stay informed and adhere to any rectification measures provided by the company. Ensuring the safety and reliability of electric vehicles is paramount, and these recalls are a crucial step towards addressing potential defects.
