Annual Inspire Ride Event

On May 18, over 530 motorcycles made their way to Lincoln’s International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) for the annual Inspire Ride charity event. This fantastic gathering raised more than £2500 to support crucial charitable causes. Taking place each year in honor of those who served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, this year’s ride marked the 80th anniversary of Operation Manna, a significant humanitarian mission that delivered food supplies to starving civilians in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands.

A Journey of Remembrance and Community

Riders from both northern and southern meeting points congregated and traveled in a convoy to the IBCC venue, eagerly awaiting a flypast by a Lancaster bomber, courtesy of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight team from RAF Coningsby. Nicky Van Der Drift, CEO of IBCC, shared her excitement about the event, stating, “The riders are just the loveliest people. They were patient, they were funny, and they were just a joy to have on site.” The IBCC plays a crucial role in preserving the legacy of those who fought in World War II, and hosting such events helps keep the center vibrant.

Impact and Future Events

The funds raised during this uplifting event were split between the IBCC and the Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service (LEBBS), who were present to engage with visitors. The IBCC’s part of the funds will bolster their education and outreach programs, essential for teaching future generations about the history of the conflict. Lincoln rider Jason Bailey emphasized the significance of the event, noting its personal connection, as he had a memorial stone placed for his grandfather, who served during the war. With 535 motorcycles and approximately 1450 attendees, plans are already underway for next year’s ride, set for Sunday, May 24, 2026. For more details, visit the IBCC website.
