Transforming the EV Landscape in Northern Illinois

Since its launch in 2024, ComEd has become the superhero of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in northern Illinois by dishing out over $100 million in EV and charging rebates. This investment, coupled with funds from the Illinois EPA and other federal grants, is driving the state’s EV revolution at a pace that makes the rest of the nation feel like it’s stuck in traffic.

Fueling the Future: An Electrifying Commitment

With more than 7,200 electric vehicle charging ports deployed and over 2,200 EVs registered to various businesses and public sector customers, ComEd’s Beneficial Electrification (BE) program is not just moving at lightning speed; it’s paving the way to a cleaner future. Hold onto your charging cables, folks! An additional $168 million investment between 2026 and 2028 promises to turbocharge this momentum even further.

Bringing Balance to the Charge

Now, you might be wondering, what about equity? ComEd has that covered too. With 80% of the rebates from its 6,400 projects going to low-income businesses and communities, they’re not only electrifying vehicles; they’re also lighting the way for those overlooked by traditional investments. As Governor J.B. Pritzker’s Climate and Equitable Jobs Act aims for 1 million EVs on Illinois roads by 2030, ComEd stands as a key player, ensuring that 90% of the registered EVs—yup, a whopping 150,000—call its service territory home.
