First Solar’s New Factory Announcement

First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR), the leading solar panel manufacturer in the United States, has made an exciting announcement! The company is set to open a new 3.7-gigawatt (GW) factory in the U.S. to complete the production of its innovative Series 6 modules, a project that began overseas. This move is poised to significantly bolster domestic manufacturing, with production slated to kick off at the end of 2026, escalating through the first half of 2027.

Strategic Alignment with US Energy Policy

This initiative aligns perfectly with First Solar’s strategy to expand U.S. manufacturing while reshoring supply chains. The recent passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which introduced vital manufacturing tax credits like the 45x credit, has provided a significant boost for domestic production in the renewable energy sector. While the Trump administration has expressed skepticism towards renewable energy, the retention of these tax credits demonstrates a clear pathway for companies like First Solar to thrive.

Impact on Jobs and Energy Affordability

Mark Widmar, CEO of First Solar, highlighted the company’s commitment during a conference call with investors, stating, “this activity places us uniquely at the intersection of several of the administration’s key priorities, including domestic manufacturing job creation and energy affordability.” As First Solar ramps up production in the new factory, the potential for job creation and technological advancement in the renewable space bodes well for the future of energy in the U.S.
