2024 Ford Expedition: Starts at $57,520

For the 2024 model year, there are no major changes to Ford’s three-row, body-on-frame SUV, but it is available in a multitude of configurations to suit a variety of needs and budgets. The list of minor updates includes a new Wild Green exterior color option, front tow hooks with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package on four-wheel-drive variants and USB-C charging ports for the second row.

All 2024 Expeditions are powered by a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4WD is optional on every trim level except the off-road-focused Timberline, which is only available with 4WD. In the XL STX and XLT, the V-6 generates 380 horsepower and 470 pounds-feet of torque. The Limited, King Ranch and Platinum get a high-output version of the same engine that is cranked up to 400 hp and 480 pounds-feet, and the Timberline stretches the six further to 440 hp and 510 pounds-feet. The 440-hp tune is also available in the Limited, where it is bundled in the Stealth Performance Edition, a blacked-out variant riding on a sport suspension.

The mid-level EcoBoost engine comes with almost no fuel-economy penalty, with all rear-drive Expeditions getting an EPA-estimated 17/23/19 mpg city/highway/combined and most 4WD versions coming in at 16/22/18. The one exception is the off-road-focused Timberline, which falls to 16/19/17 mpg with the highest-output engine.

The 2024 Expedition is on sale now. The Expedition is roughly the size of a Chevrolet Tahoe; with an additional 9.1 inches in wheelbase and 11.9 inches longer overall, the Expedition Max is equivalent to the Chevy Suburban. Available on all but the XL STX and Timberline, the Max’s extra foot costs an additional $3,000. Full-line pricing, including $1,995 destination, is as follows:

XL STX: $57,520
XLT: $61,585
Limited: $70,405
Timberline: $73,695
King Ranch: $80,460
Platinum: $82,690

The XL STX is aimed at fleet buyers and includes little equipment to entice consumers other than rental fleets. It has only five seats, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, and a 12-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety equipment on the XL STX is limited to Ford’s basic Co-Pilot360 system, which includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure steering, blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert.

The XLT gains only a power-folding third row of seating and tri-zone climate control as standard equipment, but opens up more optional equipment for personal buyers. Moving up to the Limited is where the Expedition starts to class up, with 20-inch wheels, a power liftgate and a panoramic moonroof. Its seats are upholstered in leather; they are heated and ventilated in the front and heated in the second-row captain’s chairs. Tech upgrades include a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and adaptive cruise control.

To put its increased power to the ground, the Timberline features all-terrain tires on black 18-inch wheels and a limited-slip differential. It gets a unique off-road suspension tune, black exterior trim and unique orange accents inside and out.

At the top of the Expedition lineup, the King Ranch and Platinum offer different takes on luxury; the King Ranch is the sort you’d find in a multimillion-dollar log mansion in the mountains, while the Platinum is a sleeker, more urban ride. Both ride on 22-inch wheels and feature power running boards, power-folding second-row seats, a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.5-inch touchscreen, a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and a 360-degree parking camera. Additionally, the King Ranch gets brown accents on the front and rear bumpers, as well as a unique dark-brown leather interior. The Platinum features its own upgraded wood trim and leather with accent stitching, as well as massaging front seats, an adaptive suspension, automated parking, and Ford’s BlueCruise semi-autonomous hands-free highway driving system.
