Advanced Powertrain Features

The 2026 Leaf boasts an all-new powertrain that integrates the motor, inverter, and gearing into a single, compact unit. This unit is 10% smaller than the current Leaf’s motor, rendering it quieter and smoother in operation. With a robust output of up to 214 horsepower and 261 pounds-feet of torque, this powertrain matches the most potent version of the outgoing model while also delivering 11 additional pounds-feet of torque.

Structural Enhancements for Improved Efficiency

Nissan’s latest engineering innovations focus on maximizing thermal management, contributing significantly to energy efficiency in the redesigned Leaf. The inclusion of a liquid-cooled battery and the novel approach of utilizing heat from the onboard charger enhances the battery’s performance and longevity. Chief vehicle engineer Hiroki Isobe emphasizes optimizing energy use as the development team’s top priority.

Conclusion and Anticipation

Furthermore, the structural integrity of the new Leaf benefits from a stiffer architecture and a sophisticated multilink rear suspension system, which replaces the previous torsion beam. This upgrade provides a remarkable 66% increase in lateral stiffness, significantly enhancing ride quality and maneuverability. As excitement builds for the next chapter in Nissan’s EV journey, the third video in this revealing series is expected to be released shortly, promising further insights into the redesigned Leaf.
