Introduction to the Cadillac Sollei Concept

Cadillac, once celebrated as one of the premier luxury marques, experienced a decline in status over the years. The brand’s vehicles increasingly shared parts with other General Motors models, and a true flagship car had been absent for two decades since the Eldorado’s departure in the early 2000s. However, Cadillac aims to reclaim its luxury crown with the arrival of the hand-built, highly bespoke electric Celestiq. Adding to this resurgence is the newly revealed Cadillac Sollei concept, an exquisite two-door convertible that embodies Cadillac’s dedication to opulence and elegance.

Design and Craftsmanship

The Sollei concept is essentially a roofless version of the Celestiq, with two fewer doors. The illuminated grille dominates the front end, and everything ahead of the A-pillar is shared with the Celestiq. Both vehicles share the same wheelbase and overall length, utilizing the Ultium battery platform. However, the Sollei is more focused on design and craftsmanship than driving performance. “Sol” means sun, and “lei” means leisure, and the Sollei’s design exudes tranquility and elegance.

The Sollei is hand-painted in Manila Cream, a color originally used on Cadillacs in the late 1950s. It features 23-inch wheels with a gleaming silver finish, and the brushed aluminum windshield surround glows with a rose gold “Aurora” look. Colossal doors, around five feet long, open to reveal a luxurious interior adorned with rich leather and the finest unstained wood, displaying natural color and grain patterns through an open-pore finish. Each strip of wood is meticulously hand-cut and hand-laid using marquetry, adding an art deco flair to the cabin.

Interior Luxury and Unique Features

The Sollei’s interior shares the same yellow color as its exterior, beautifully complemented by the light tan wood. The wood pattern on the seat backs and the stitching and perforation on the seat cushions emulate a sunburst. The Nappa leather features a pink iridescent pigment, producing a subtle color-changing sunrise effect. The dashboard includes the same 55-inch pane of glass found in the Celestiq, spanning the width of the dashboard and housing two separate screens.

An integrated chiller with a powered glass door sits between the rear seats, holding a bespoke crystal decanter and glasses. The ambient lighting offers 126 color choices and several adjustable zones. Additionally, the Sollei includes a unique brushed metal and leather-wrapped case with four 3-D-printed acrylic bird calls, a leather-bound journal with hand-painted bird illustrations, and a leather tool roll for pens and pencils, catering to bird-watchers.

Future Prospects

Cadillac’s press release mentions a fabric roof for the Sollei, although it was not showcased at the Cadillac House at Vanderbilt. Cadillac describes the Sollei as a design exercise that pushes the boundaries of future bespoke commissions. Despite its current conceptual status, the Sollei’s breathtaking design and craftsmanship reaffirm Cadillac’s commitment to high-end luxury and hand-crafted, bespoke vehicles. We anticipate strong interest from Celestiq reservation holders, potentially leading to a limited production run of this magnificent concept.
