Ford has wasted no time pumping up the roster with special editions: Dark Horse, GTD and now, the GT California Special. A trim package with a long history on the Mustang, the GT California Special is only available on the V-8–powered GT.
The 2024 GT/CS (as Ford abbreviates it on the car’s badging) ornaments the Mustang with a unique color the brand calls Rave Blue. The hue outlines nostrils in the GT/CS’s unique horizontal-slat grille and highlights the exterior badging and wheels. In a cool close-up detail, the matte-black striping on the lower body has “California Special” repeated across it in gloss black in such a small font that, from a distance, it looks like pinstriping.
Inside, navy-blue leather with gray and Raptor Blue stitching subtly accents the black leather seats, doors and dashboard; getting the same stitching on the steering wheel and center console is an option. GT/CS badges and logos also adorn the instrument panel and floormats.
A $1,995 add-on to Mustang GTs with the Premium trim package, the California Special is available on coupes and convertibles with either the six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.
