Affected vehicles include model-year 2022 Kia Niro EVs. The high-voltage battery safety plug may overheat and melt, causing a loss in drive power and increasing the risk of fire and injury. Drivers are advised not to charge their vehicle in a garage or other covered structure until the recall repair is complete.
Kia will notify owners July 19, but those with further questions in the meantime can contact the automaker at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s number for this recall is SC314), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
Dealers will replace the safety plug for free.
