Overview of the Recall

Ford has announced a significant recall affecting 1,075,299 vehicles due to a software issue within the Ford Sync infotainment system. This situation may cause the center display screen to freeze or to go black when the vehicle is in reverse, leading to potential safety risks associated with the backup camera. The recall spans various models from 2021 to 2024, highlighting the concern across both Ford and Lincoln’s vehicle lineups.

Models Affected

The recall encompasses several notable models, including the 2021–2024 Ford Bronco, F-150, and Edge, alongside the 2023–2024 Escape, Corsair, as well as the F-Series trucks ranging from F-250 to F-600. Other affected models include the 2022–2024 Expedition, 2022–2025 Transit, 2021–2023 Mach-E, and Lincoln Nautilus, amongst others. Such a vast range of vehicles underlines the widespread nature of this recall and the potential inconvenience for many drivers.

Next Steps for Vehicle Owners

Ford has advised vehicle owners to bring their cars to an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer for a software update of the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). While this update is currently not available, owners will receive notification letters starting June 16, and further updates will follow once the solution is implemented. Notably, vehicles equipped with over-the-air update capabilities may receive the fix remotely, alleviating the need for a dealership visit.

While there has been one reported minor crash associated with this recall, the company asserts that no injuries have occurred. Ford is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers, emphasizing the importance of addressing the software error promptly.
