Welcome to the Future of Travel!

Hold onto your plug-in hybrids, folks! Pennsylvania has officially opened its first federally funded EV charging station on the Pennsylvania Turnpike at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza (exit 202 westbound). This monumental occasion is key to making long-distance EV travel smoother than ever before!

Zap! A Fast-Paced Charge

This isn’t just a glorified parking spot for electric cars. Thanks to funding from the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, the charging stations are poised to be quick, reliable, and strategically placed where you already stop. And let’s be honest, if you’re going to take a pit stop for coffee and a snack, you might as well charge up your ride too!

More to Come: The EV Revolution Rolls On

But wait, there’s more! In addition to the Blue Mountain Station, another NEVI-funded site is expected to light up at the New Stanton Service Plaza (exit 77 westbound) next week. And that’s just the beginning; the Pennsylvania Turnpike plans to install a whopping 80 new universal EV charging stations across all 17 service plazas by the end of 2027. Talk about a power trip!

So buckle up, because the future of road trips in Pennsylvania is looking faster and more eco-friendly than a lightning bolt. Thanks to all parties involved, including the tireless efforts of Governor Josh Shapiro and the PENNDOT, we’re paving the way for a greener Pennsylvania.
