A Sneak Peek of the Future: The Upcoming Nissan Armada

The Nissan Armada is poised for a significant makeover, set to be officially revealed on September 3. As we eagerly await the debut, Nissan has provided a tantalizing teaser showing off a close-up of the new Armada’s grille. This glimpse strongly suggests that the new lineup will include the rugged, outdoorsy Rock Creek trim or possibly a more serious Pro-4X variant.

Rock Creek or Pro-4X: What to Expect

Currently, Nissan offers Rock Creek editions of the Rogue and Pathfinder, characterized by a distinctive chunky, black mesh grille with three metallic slots just beneath the hood line. These models also feature all-terrain tires, glossy black exterior trim, and a standard roof rack—features we can likely expect to see in the potential Rock Creek variant of the Armada.

On the other hand, the Pro-4X trim is known for its off-road capabilities as seen on the mid-size Frontier, which includes upgraded hardware designed for rugged terrains. The similar grille design in the new Armada teaser could imply that a Pro-4X variant might also be in the works, setting it up as a direct competitor to the Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, Chevy Tahoe Z71, and GMC Yukon AT4.

More Than Just a Grille: A Comprehensive Redesign

The teaser also showcases what appears to be an obsidian green paint color, with the Nissan logo outlined in lava red. Interestingly, the backdrop features a 1967 Nissan Patrol, hinting at the Armada’s deep-rooted heritage. The return of the Patrol moniker in the U.S. back in 2016 saw it rebranded as the Armada, reinforcing the strong legacy behind this model.

Additionally, earlier this year, Infiniti—Nissan’s luxury division—revealed the new QX80. Given the historic overlap between the QX80 and the Armada, we can anticipate that the next-gen Armada will share some updated features, like the new suspension system, electrically assisted power steering, and potentially a shift from the old 5.6-liter V-8 engine to a modern twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6.

All these updates signify a substantial shift in the Armada’s design and capabilities, ensuring it remains a competitive player in the full-size SUV market. Stay tuned for the full reveal next week, where all these speculations will finally be confirmed.
