Having joined the Sorento line for the 2022 model year, the plug-in hybrid model rolls into 2024 essentially unchanged. For 2023, Kia pared the plug-in Sorento down to a single trim level, the fully loaded SX Prestige (which Kia abbreviates to SX-P).
There are a couple small differences this year: Buyers can now option a Gravity Blue paint color with a navy-blue and gray interior for a more upscale look, and the Runway Red color is gone.
Powertrain Specs and MPG
The 2024 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid pairs a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a system total of 261 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque. Power is routed through a six-speed automatic transmission to a standard all-wheel-drive system. Drawing from a 14-kilowatt-hour battery pack, the Sorento can cover up to 32 miles on electricity alone, according to Kia. While official figures from the EPA are not yet available for the 2024 model, the 2023 model is rated at 34 mpg combined when operating on gas alone and 79 mpg-equivalent when running as a hybrid.
360 Degrees of Active Safety Standard
The PHEV comes fully loaded with advanced driver-assist systems. Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, active lane-centering steering, blind spot monitors and cameras that display a view to the sides in the instrument panel when the driver activates a turn signal. Also standard are traffic-sign recognition, automatic high beams, rear cross-traffic alert, rear emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera system.
The 2024 Kia Sorento PHEV is available to order now. Including $1,325 for delivery, it’s priced at $51,315. Aside from a $1,500 rear-seat entertainment system, the only available options are dealer-installed accessories. For context, the gas-powered 2024 Sorento starts at $31,415, and the non-PHEV 2024 Sorento Hybrid SX-P starts at $43,815.
