Sauber Expands Its Footprint in the UK

Sauber has made an exciting announcement regarding the establishment of a new UK base, paving the way for its strategic collaboration with Audi ahead of their anticipated entry into Formula 1 in 2026. As one of the few constructors not operating from the UK, Sauber is poised to enhance its influence within the competitive F1 landscape with this development.

The Importance of Location in Formula 1

The tightly-knit structure of Formula 1 teams and their associated resources often make it challenging for teams like Sauber to attract top talents. Most senior figures within the sport prefer relocating to the UK, a region housing key players such as Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes. This reality has spurred Sauber’s decision to open a technology centre in the UK, which will allow them to engage with the vast network of approximately 25,000 F1 personnel already based there.

Binotto’s Vision for a Collaborative Future

Mattia Binotto, the COO and CTO of Sauber Motorsport, expressed enthusiasm about this new venture. He stated, “We are excited to establish our technical centre in the UK to complement our key site in Hinwil.” The existing operations in Hinwil will remain essential, with the intention of fostering a collaborative relationship between the two locations. Currently, Sauber is evaluating potential sites in regions such as Bicester, Silverstone, and Milton Keynes, aiming for the technical centre to be operational by summer 2025. This move signals Sauber’s commitment to innovation and performance as they prepare for a new era in partnership with Audi.
