Tesla’s Recent Recall Announcement

In a significant move, Tesla has announced a recall impacting more than 376,200 units of its Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV. This decision comes in response to a critical issue affecting the vehicles’ power steering system that was identified in model-year 2023 vehicles. Owners of these models should be aware of the recall to ensure their safety and the safe operation of their vehicles.

The Issue Explained

The problem arises from an overvoltage situation that can stress the drive components on the circuit board within these vehicles, leading to a potential loss of power steering assist during acceleration from a stop. This loss makes steering considerably more strenuous, particularly at low speeds, which can significantly heighten the risk of a crash. Recognizing the severity of this problem, Tesla has acted swiftly to mitigate the risks for its customers.

Resolution and Customer Support

Tesla has developed an over-the-air software update designed to rectify this issue. The automaker plans to begin notifying affected owners on March 25. For any inquiries regarding the recall, owners can contact Tesla at 877-798-3752, referencing recall number SB-25-00-004. Alternatively, they may reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number for further details.
